“Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite. Or waiting around for Friday night or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil or a better break or a string of pearls or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or another chance. Everyone is just waiting.” ~Dr. Seuss

Life is too short to spend everyday stressed, running around and not taking the time to realize what a blessing the day actually is. Each day is a gift that is given to us to be the best person we can be.

You can ask yourself at the end of the day: “was I pleasant with every other human being I came in contact with today?” Maybe you gave the foreign woman at the coffee counter an attitude for not making your drink as quickly as you would have liked. Maybe you snapped at your child because she asked you the same question seventeen times. Maybe you impatiently rode too close to the old driver’s bumper in front of you because you had somewhere “important” to be and were aggravated with his terrible driving skills.

Life presents us small challenges each day and all day. It is out own decision to decide how to react. I assure you that calm, positive reactions will make you smile as you put your head on your pillow at night. Maybe the woman at the coffee counter was having a bad day.

Maybe your child loves you so much they like to push your buttons just for that extra attention. Maybe the slow elderly driver just visited his wife in the nursing home and was crying while he was driving. These are the thoughts that we need to take into consideration and realize the world does not revolve around us.

Waiting for the light to turn green or for your cell phone to ring is time that could be spent on appreciating the day we have been given. A gift. Take a deep breath in the morning and make the decision to be the most patient, pleasant, grateful person you can be for that day.

Tomorrow is never a guarantee. Live each day as if it were your last. Carpe Diem!
